Background Checks

The backbone of the Beth - Wood Baseball League {B - W} is the adult volunteer, dedicated people like yourself serve diligently on our Board of Directors, Manage / Coach our Teams year after year or simply Volunteer to help with League activities.

However, we fully understand that the greatest treasures we have are our children.  As adults, we must ensure that these young people grow up happy, healthy and above all, safe.  Whether they are our children, or the children of others, each of us has an utmost responsibility to protect them.  They are our future and an endless source of joy.

Like many national youth organizations, the B - W seeks to attract the most qualified volunteers to administer our local program.  At the same time, we must be aware that this could make us a target for child abusers.  The B - W is dedicated to educate its children and volunteers in ways to prevent child abusers from becoming involved in our League.  One of these preventions is to conduct background checks.

The purpose of these background checks is, first and foremost, to protect our children.  Second, they maintain the B - W as a hostile environment for those who would seek to do harm.  Third, they help protect local Leagues like the B - W and individuals from possible loss of personal or League assets because of litigation.

As mandated by Babe Ruth League, starting in 2014, ALL volunteers associated with the operation of the League, Beth – Wood Baseball will be required to conduct a nationwide search (including the Department of Justice National Sex Offender Public Registry) to identify any unsuitable criminal history as well as Social Security verification .

However, for 2015 and subsequent years moving forward, Babe Ruth League Inc. has recently adopted a new Policy stating once a thorough Background Check is performed (meeting the standards set forth) and successfully passed, it is good for a period of three (3) years and does not have to be performed on a annual basis as was originally required (therefore, if Beth – Wood Baseball performed a Background Check for you in 2014, your next Background Check will not have to be performed until the 2017 Season).
